Help us translate our store page?

Hey everyone! So, although full translations are a bit of a beast, it’s much easier to translate the game’s store page.

So, if you happen to speak a language that’s supported by Steam, and you’d like to help us out, we’d greatly appreciate it if you wanted to lend your hand to helping us translate Defender’s Quest’s store descriptions :slight_smile:

This way native speakers who might be interested in Defender’s Quest and are used to muddling through english-language games can have a vague idea whether they’d like to play this game or not. And if other sites like GOG support localized store page descriptions we’ll re-use them there, too.

Here’s the page, if you switch the language, you can see if we have a store page description in that language or not (if not, the stuff we wrote will stand out in English).

Three languages in particular we’d like to get to if we can:

  • Czech (if Coyot isn’t too busy :P, he’s done so much already!)
  • Russian
  • Japanese

Seeing as those are languages the game is actually available in, but we don’t have store page translations for, just yet. But we’ll take anything, even if the game itself isn’t translated into that language (Steam lets you clearly specify which languages are actually supported by the GAME, rather than just having translated text for it in the store).

Mandatory legal notice blah blah blah: It should go without saying that if you contribute a store page translation, you’re acting as a volunteer, and are giving us the rights to use it on our store to advertise our game, which is obviously a commercial enterprise.

Anyways, just thought I’d ask in case anyone’s bored! If nothing comes of it, that’s okay too. And if somebody already did one of these and sent it to me and I missed it, super sorry! (I nearly missed the Korean one, so I suspect it’s possible I might have missed others – quick scan of my inbox doesn’t turn anything up).

Here is a Russian description:

Defender’s Quest это гибрид жанров Tower-Defense и RPG. Геймплей сфокусирован на трех вещах: широте тактических возможностей, кастомизации и сюжете. Внезапные встречи с врагами, эмо-дети с “острыми” прическами, изнуряющие, без конца повторяющиеся битвы бессмысленно тратящие ваше время - здесь ничего из этого нет!

Боевая система построена на основе механики “защитных башен”, место которых занимают герои. Каждый герой индивидуально растет в уровне, учит навыки и снаряжается экипировкой, что позволяет адаптировать боевую стратегию и получаемый игровой опыт под себя. В своей сути игра похожа на тактические RPG, но с системой боя в реальном времени. Скорость течения боя полностью настраиваемая, включая возможность отдавать приказы во время паузы.

Еще одна привлекательная черта Defender’s Quest это закрученный вокруг персонажей сюжет, написанный настоящим специалистом в области английской литературы! История стремиться оставаться живой, лаконичной, всегда напрямую связанной с геймплеем и с минимумом несюжетного истолковывания. И наконец у игры в избытке системных настроек, дающих игроку возможность получить наилучший игровой опыт какой возможен!

ВНИМАНИЕ: на данный момент частота кадров ограничена 30 FPS. Но это не сильно важно, так как:
= У вас есть полный контроль над временем в игре, так что ограничение частоты кадров не повлияет негативно на скорость вашей реакции.
= Спрайты при 60 FPS быстрее анимироваться бы не стали.
= Скоро выйдет бесплатное обновление, которое добавит поддержку Full HD/60 FPS.

P.S. I don’t quite understand what you mean by the “English major”. Is it like a military major or like a degree in English literature?
P.S.S. And I failed to translate the “out the wazoo” thing to Russian :slight_smile: There is no way to say such things politely in Russian…

“English Major” means someone with a bachelor’s degree in English literature from a University. It’s a weird cultural thing that we English speakers talk about “Studying English” when we really mean “Studying writing and literature” – I guess the stuff we’re studying is written in English, but I understand how it’s confusing because it’s not a foreign language study course.

“We’ve got X coming out the wazoo” is just an exaggerated way of saying “We have an enormous amount of X!” Any funny way to say that is fine, or if that’s too hard, just “we have a lot of X”.

Well thank you for lecturing me even if I already new those things :wink:
Nevertheless they couldn’t be properly translate to Russian. So “English Major” was magically transformed into “Specialist in English literature”. And anus thing into “in excess”.

Anus… I literally never thought too hard about what the “wazoo” was standing in for… puts a whole new meaning on the phrase now.

Just re-read everything once again. I think it turned up pretty good(not brilliant, something like 4.2\5). I even managed to recreate some of than English kind of lusciousness of yours :smirk:

“Defender’s Quest est un hybride jeu de tourelles/jeu de rôle” sounds a bit strange. I would have written “Defender’s Quest est un hybride de jeu de tourelles et de jeu de rôle” or “Defender’s Quest est un hybride entre jeu de tourelles et jeu de rôle”.
The current sentence isn’t strictly incorrect, but I had to read it twice to fully understand…
